The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada

This is one awesome film. I have been remiss in not watching it sooner. Tommy Lee Jones, Dwight Yoakum, and Barry Pepper star in this western. Arkansan Levon Helm makes a wonderful appearance as well. Tommy Lee Jones doesn't look or sound like himself. He directed it and according to the IMDB, much of it was shot on his own ranch.

Tommy Lee has always been one of my favorites. I loved him in "Coal Miner's Daughter." He's just cool and intelligent. According to IMDB, "Jones gave each cast member a copy of Albert Camus' "The Stranger" to read so that they would understand alienation, a big theme in both the novel and the film." Now I've got to read this. That will make my husband happy.

Dwight Yoakum is perfect in his role as local sheriff as well. He has some very memorable quotes that I will refrain from repeating in this forum.

His next film is a Coen brothers written/directed piece named No Country for Old Men, due out next year. Oh goody!
