Kindergarten

Julia Rose started kindergarten this year. She absolutely loves it. She's my "follow the rules" child, so I think all the organization and regimented schedule thrills her little soul. She's also very shy and timid with strangers, so she has surprised me this year. I ordered a pink backpack and pink lunchbag from LLBean. We shopped for school supplies and school clothes. She was about to burst from the anticipation of the first day.

Now I pull through that long line at the Academy every morning and the safety guard opens the door for Julia Rose. She jumps out and never looks back. The safety guard always tells me to have a nice day, which I try to do.

Now the race is on to learn to read. There's another little girl in her class that can read, and Julia Rose wants to learn so she can "beat Gracie." The competitive edge finally shows itself, and it is with reading! I love it and she's definitely ours...soon she'll be falling asleep with books across her face. She and her sister both look at books every night after bedtime and prayers.

She can learn to read, but she can't learn to spell. How else will Terry and I communicate?

The Book List....

Okay - Mark tagged me so here's my book list. Mine aren't nearly as brainy as Dr. Elrod's though, so bear with me.

One book that changed your life: Paula by Isabel Allende. This is an autobiography written as her daughter lies in a coma. Beautiful and could be listed as a book that made me cry.

One book that you’ve read more than once: Too many to name. I read them all over and over.

One book that you’d want on a desert island: SAS Survival Handbook: How to Survive in the Wild, in Any Climate, on Land or at Sea by John 'Lofty' Wiseman

One book that made you laugh: Naked by David Sedaris. Actually any nonfiction by David Sedaris. Not so crazy about his fiction. Oh, he makes me laugh until I cry.

One book that made you cry: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.

One book you wish you had written: Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey. So wonderful.

One book that you wish had never been written: The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. First book I read that I didn't like (in Sylvia Bond's 11th grade English class). I was so disappointed.

One book you’re currently reading: The Myth of a Christian Nation: How the Quest for Political Power Is Destroying the Church by Gregory A. Boyd

One book you’ve been meaning to read: To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf. For my book club...I'm way behind.

Interesting list - difficult to choose some of these because I had so many from which to choose.
